REVIEW OF MIMI’S BAKEHOUSE BEFORENOON TEA

Now you know that I love Afternoon Tea. It’s a delightful tradition that offers a perfect blend of relaxation and indulgence. I love sitting down to a beautifully set table with an assortment of delicate finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam, and an array of exquisite pastries and cakes.

The experience is not just about the food, but also the ambiance – the gentle clinking of teacups, the soft murmur of conversation, and the comforting aroma of freshly brewed tea. It’s a moment to pause, savour, and enjoy the simple pleasures of life, and I for one am happy to indulge when ever I can. So how could I turn down a Beforenoon Tea??!!

Mimi’s Bakehouse have relaunched their Beforenoon Tea, think a more savoury Afternoon Tea and served at Brunch time!

Beforenoon tea, is often referred to as “elevenses” here in the UK and is a delightful mid-morning break that offers a chance to recharge before the day’s main activities. Typically enjoyed around 11 a.m., this tradition includes a light snack such as biscuits, pastries, or a slice of cake, accompanied by a cup of tea or coffee. It’s a moment to pause, relax, and enjoy a brief respite from work or daily chores.

Mimi’s have elevated this ‘Tea’ and made it available only on weekends; so if you prefer your mid-mornings to your mid-afternoons, then this is the ‘Tea’ for you.

To start, select your preferred tea – we opted for bottomless Earl Grey and Hollywood Chai. Browse the menu and pick your filling for the Breakfast Rolls – bacon, sausage, or veggie haggis. You might also consider upgrading to include a refreshing Orange Juice or a Mimosa.

The cake stand is delivered and its laden with treats - sweet and savoury.

The top tier is dedicated to scones. Enjoy warm cheddar scones paired with homemade chive cream cheese. These scones boast a light, exceptional crust and a warm, fluffy interior. Spread the creamy chive cream cheese generously on both halves, and you have the perfect beginning to a dreamy beforenoon tea.

The middle tier is all about indulging your sweet tooth. It features homemade granola with coconut yoghurt and mixed berry jam, a bite-sized breakfast muffin reminiscent of sticky toffee pudding, a mini chocolate krispie traybake, and a heavenly homemade pancake stack with Biscoff filling and crumbs.

The bottom tier is reserved for something savoury. Despite being labelled as mini breakfast rolls, these rolls are anything but mini. You’ll find four full-sized rolls filled with sausage (our choice).

As you savour each delightful bite of the Beforenoon Tea, you can’t help but feel wonderfully stuffed, enjoying the perfect balance of sweet and savoury treats. We didn’t manage to finish it all, but the nice thing is, you get to take any left overs home for Afternoon Tea!

So the next time you feel yourself checking out the fridge at around 11am, why not just take yourself down to Mimi’s and indulge in their Beforenoon Tea. It’s so worth it.

My Spoon Award : Gold Spoon 9/10

I was invited by Mimi’s Bakehouse to review their menu.

Food and drink were complimentary but the views are very much my own.
