FOOD - Innis and Gunn new lunchtime menu, Edinburgh

Many of you may be familiar with a taproom - a vibrant and inviting space where craft beer enthusiasts gather to enjoy freshly brewed beverages straight from the source. It offers a unique experience where patrons can sample a variety of beers, from hoppy IPAs to rich stouts. The atmosphere is typically relaxed and communal, with long tables encouraging conversation among friends and strangers alike. It’s a place where the love for craft beer and community come together, making every visit a memorable one.

In Edinburgh, one of the best taprooms is Innis & Gunn Taproom on Lothian Road. This vibrant taproom boasts 26 taps featuring a diverse selection of beers, including Innis & Gunn’s own creations and brews from local and international breweries. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, where you get to enjoy ice cold pints and delicious Scottish food, making it a perfect spot for both locals and tourists to unwind and savour the flavours of Edinburgh.

My favourite and go to pint is the Mangoes on the Run IPA, The Original but also love their beers that have been matured in single malt whisky casks and rum casks, bringing new flavour profiles that you wouldn’t think possible for beer.

review of innis and gunn’s new lunchtime menu, edinburgh

Cold pints, in my opinion, are always better served with food; and Innis & Gunn certainly know how to satisfy those tastebuds.

They still have run one of the BEST Steak Frites in the city. From Monday to Sunday, dine on Chargrilled 35 day dry aged Scottish steak, garlic butter fries, The Original steak sauce PLUS the fries are bottomless and another portion of steak completely free PLUS a glass of The Original Innis & Gunn Beer- all for only £19.95. Now they have brought out the Big Lunch Munch. There are 4 dishes to choose from, all for £9.95 which includes a drink and you can add chips or crisps for £2 or loaded fries for £5.

  • Pastrami on Sourdough - pastrami, sauerkraut, American mustard, pickles on Bavarian Bakehouse sourdough

  • Chicken Club Sub - chopped chicken bacon, lettuce and tomato club on a Bavarian Bakehouse baguette

  • Vegan Double Dip - Steakhouse mushrooms, garlic butter house fries, red wine jus on a Bakehouse baguette

And the one we tried, the Double Dip - Chargrilled Scottish steak, garlic butter house frites, Innis & Gunn signature steak sauce, crispy onions on a Bavarian Bakehouse french roll. Oooft!

The Double Dip arrives wrapped and cut in half ready for the dunking action. The steak is cooked to your liking and in my case, medium rare (perfectly cooked and seasoned by the way). It sits atop a layer of frites all smooshed into a roll. A pot of the I&G signature steak sauce sits proudly next to the roll waiting patiently.

Dunking the steak roll into that sauce is just a culinary delight that tantalises the taste buds. The rich, savoury sauce seeps into the soft, warm bread, infusing it with a burst of flavour that complements the hearty steak perfectly. Each bite offers a harmonious blend of textures and tastes—the tender, juicy steak, the slightly crispy exterior of the roll and the crispy onions, and the smooth, luscious sauce. This combination creates a comforting and satisfying experience, perfect for a lunchtime treat.

Add to this loaded fries with haggis, cheese curds and lashings of that signature sauce and lunch just got elevated to god tier!

I cant fault this lunchtime treat, it’s everything you need it to be! Whether you’re having a good day or a bad one, this is the place to escape for an hour to feed your happy!

My Spoon Award : Gold Spoon 9/10

I was invited by Innis & Gunn Taproom to review their menu. Food and drink were complimentary but the views are very much my own.
