Weekly Wrap - Edition 14

BIG BURRITO

No Shows - after being closed for around 4 months, this activity of not cancelling bookings and no shows, is even more crippling to our hospitality industry. Restaurant covers have been reduced so that they can accommodate guests safely but to have no shows for tables that provide the livelihood of our hospitality industry is quite frankly outright a disgrace. There is no need for it. If you’ve called or emailed to make the booking, you can call or email to cancel it! It really is that simple.

Eat Out to Help Out ends on Monday 31st August but there are many restaurants that are extending the scheme.

Six by Nico - have announced their next menu - Cooking Sicily. There is little doubt that Sicilian cuisine represents Italian gastronomy at its best and true to his Italian self, Chef Nico Simeone will present a curation of taste and authenticity at Six by Nico in Glasgow and Edinburgh this Autumn as 'Sicily' makes a welcomed return on the menu. From Monday 7th September, the six-course tasting menu perfectly encapsulates the tastes, shapes, scents and colours of Sicilian cuisine, running until Sunday 18th October. Sicily, the largest Mediterranean island, just off the "toe" of Italy's boot, is one of the few places in the world that manages to combine a wealth of aromas and flavours together. Today, Sicilian cuisine is a singular combination of Arab, Greek, French, Spanish and North African influences, with myriad Italian flavors thrown in for good measure.

LEAF Open Farm Sundays - Food and biodiversity will be at the heart of LEAF Open Farm Sunday’s (LOFS) two-day virtual event in September. Featuring live interactive tours and demonstrations from farmers and chefs from around the UK on 19th and 20th September, organisers Linking Environment And Farming (LEAF) are calling on farmers to get involved by sharing their own short film clips, photos and stories of food and farming across social media. Farmers will be encouraged to go live on Facebook, send in videos and share photographs about their wildlife and biodiversity highlights. Whether it is bee friendly crops, habitat banks or wildflower meadows to boost biodiversity, the day will be a virtual celebration of all that farmers do to protect and enhance the environment and the value of nature to people’s health and wellbeing.
