STAY : Treehouse Villas, Koh Yao Noi, Thailand
It’s taken me over a year to write this up. The reason being is this wasn’t a blogging holiday and I wanted to just enjoy our time and enjoy the memories of lapping up the sunshine and spending some time with Mr TS. Now I’m over it …. (only joking) but I feel I can now let you in on our holiday destination that was the Treehouse Villas in Thailand.
Treehouse Villas - Luxury 5 star adult only treehouse accommodation on one of the smaller islands of Koh Yao Noi in Phang Nga Bay, Thailand.
It takes at least a day to get here. Edinburgh to Doha, a layover, Doha to Phuket, a layover then at least an hour speed boat ride to the island. My review of our hotel in Doha, the Oryx, you can read about here and the gorgeous hotel we stayed in Phuket, The Slate, you can read about here.
We flew Qatar airways and they couldn’t have looked after us any better.
Review of Treehouse Villas Koh Yao Noi Thailand
Treehouse Villas is still fairly new; it was only around a year old when we visited; but it had the look and feel of a place that was well established. It had settled into the landscape well and blended into the beach and tropical forest behind it. The hotel is very sympathetic to its environment with sustainability and the importance of balance in nature high on their list of priorities. They are home to the Oriental Pied Hornbill, a highly endangered species.
After a long hard ride on a speedboat across Phang Nga bay, you reach the jetty and a sense of calm, peace and total relaxation welcomes you. You disembark and are collected in a wee golf buddy that takes you to the main reception which is completely open plan and overlooks the main pool area and adjacent to the dining area.
Cocktails in hand, welcomes exchange, we are soon whisked away to our treehouse villa and I am still in awe looking at these photographs. The treehoouse villa is split on two levels and accessed by your own swing bridge (very secure and less than 1m off the ground). The first floors is your own private plunge pool and bar area.
Up a winding stair case and you’re into your beautiful bedroom where the bed is situated right in front of the large balcony doors providing you with unbroken endless views over the bay. Sunsets are spectacular either sat on the balcony or sat in bed with the aircon on.
The tree house is round so the you are provided with 180 degree views whilst the back end of the treehouse is more private for your bathroom, changing area and toilets.
There are only 14 villas and they are located and sited so that for the most part they are private and you can’t really see into the villas around you. These villas in front of our treehouse where ground floor villas with plunge pools accessed directly from the beach. By siting these villas in this way, you have superb views whether its from your pool deck or from the bedroom.
Dining for the most part was in the main dining space called Roots. An open plan dining room overlooking the pool and villas. Breakfast was served here and breakfast was a great spread of continental breakfasts with a Thai twist as well as Western breakfasts from poached eggs on toast to a full breakfast.
There was also the option for in villa dining which we chose for most of our lunches. The menu catered for very Western palates - toasted sandwiches, chips etc to a few more Thai dishes like curries.
Mr TS enjoyed the spicy heat where as I did opt for more ‘my norm’ dishes.
There is also another hotel not far away and you can also choose to visit their restaurants. They have a wider variety of food on their menu and some more authentic Thai cuisine.
One of my favourites was these spring rolls served with a chilli dipping sauce. Perfect for a hot day, sat in the plunge pool sipping on a beer and tucking into this.
The hotel of course does some great cocktails which you can choose to have at the bar, on the beach, in your villa or when its Cocktail Hour (every day at 5pm, if I remember correctly).
In your room you have gin and whisky and a range of soft drinks that is complimentary and topped up every day. Got to have those sundowner G&T’s.
The beach isn’t very wide but its soft and sandy and as there aren’t ever that many people staying (there are only 14 villas) there is plenty space and you don’t bump into other couples that often. Mostly we had the beach and the pool to ourselves.
There are many activities to choose from including a day trip Island hopping around Phang Nga bay. This will take you to some very secluded beaches, coves and bays but also to some busy tourist spots. The tour guides are fantastic and encourage you to help remove the all dreaded plastic from the oceans and the beaches. (so much of it is left behind by us manky humans!)
You will most definitely have the best photographic opportunities and your Insta will go into overdrive.
Back at the hotel you can try batik painting, yoga, kick-boxing and of course the all important wellness activity of spa treatments.
You can also take a trip into the local village, approx 1 hours drive in a 4x4, roads depending. Sometimes after heavy rains the roads have been washed away and there is no way you are visiting the village.
However my preferred activities were reading, swimming, drinking, eating, relaxing, sunbathing, sleeping and repeating.
The Treehouse Villas is stunning. It’s luxury on another level. Every whim is taken care of and the staff are tremendous. I fell in love with our villa from the moment I stepped onto the swing bridge and knew instantly that our two week break just wouldn’t be long enough.
I long to go back and hold such fond memories of this place.
If you are looking for secluded 5 star luxury for adults only, then Treehouse Villas is a must.
