REVIEW - EAT : The Granary, Leith

There’s been a lot of change happening down at The Granary in Leith. It’s a cracking building and the location is one that many restaurants would be envious over. Located right on the cross roads at the Shore, overlooking the River of Leith, this 3 levelled restaurant/bar/function room is now truly utilising its full potential.

The interior is homely and welcoming, cosy inside with those full length windows looking out. The mezzanine level holds more seating and the function room, The Jig Room, has just recently been refurbished, uncovering the light (opening up the windows) and turning this into a gorgeous multi purpose function room ideal for weddings, parties and lots of kiddies activities which they are hosting over Halloween and Christmas. (check out their Facebook page for more info).

But we were here to tuck into brunch. The Granary have overhauled not only their furnishings but their menu too and I can vouch, that it’s bloody good!

coffee.jpg

We started off as all brunches should, with coffee and a Mimosa (why not!?).

The brunch menu ranges from filled rolls - eggs, black pudding, haggis etc (£3.50 for one filling, £1.50 for each additional filling) to poached eggs on sourdough with added extras like smoked salmon, bacon or buttered spinach (£6.45 then add between £1.50 and £2.00 depending on your chosen extra).

They offer some great week day brunch deals and they cater for vegans and vegetarians.

Review of breakfast/brunch at The Granary, Leith

avo 3.jpg

Smashed Avocado and Poached Egg on Sourdough with chilli and coriander and roasted tomatoes on the vine (£7.95)

avo with egg.jpg

Thick slice of toasted sourdough loaded with chunky smashed avocado that was well prepared - creamy, seasoned well and topped with chives. The poached egg was poached perfection with a lovely runny egg yolk that oozed out over the avo and toast. Tomatoes were sweet and juicy.

Full Scottish Breakfast of eggs your way, bacon, sausage, black pudding, tattie scones, tomatoes, mushrooms, haggis, beans and toasted sourdough (£8.95)

full break 2.jpg

This is a big plate of food. There is something here for everyone to enjoy and enough to fill any belly. I loved the tattie scone all puffed up, the black pudding was lovely and peppery and not alot of fat (which is how I like it), large portobello mushroom was well cooked and the hash brown always goes down a treat. Thoroughly enjoyed it even though I didn’t manage to finish it.

We loved our breakie/brunch here. The food is delicious and tasty, well cooked, well seasoned, large portions and value for money.

This is a good spot for a cuppa coffee and pastries or cakes and a read of the morning papers, or just a good ol blether with a mate. Do put it on your list of best brunch places in Edinburgh.

christmas vegan.jpg

The Granary, like everywhere else have their Christmas menus available and on display on each table. It’s good to see that they are catering for vegans, vegetarians and low gluten choices. For their Christmas menus click here

With so many places to choose from in Edinburgh to dine for brunch its difficult to stay ahead of the pack, but I think the Granary have come back fighting and are doing a great job. The location, the ambience, the staff and most of all the food, are fab!

I was invited by The Granary to review their menu. Food and drink were complimentary but the views are very much my own.
