PRODUCT : Woodsman Whisky Blended Scotch Whisky
Woodman Whisky is one of many whiskies in Whyte and Mackay’s portfolio but this whisky is aimed at the younger generation and is their chance to recruit the next generation of whisky drinkers.
For starters it is a no-age-statement blend with a ‘stylish look’ and wood-driven flavour profile; their attempt at trying to ditch the ‘traditional’ characteristics and ‘ye olde’ profile of whisky.
The whisky is matured in freshly built American oak casks, that are handmade in Ohio, which gives in a rounded vanilla sweetness; but then the barrels are double-scorched to add a hint of smoke.
It’s 40% ABV and smooth, sweet and smoky but you’ll pick up hints of sandalwood and honey.
I prefer this as a whisky for mixing rather than straight up drinking. It’s not complex enough and leaves a little something of a bitterness in the aftertaste (this could be the hint of spearmint and cinnamon that you are meant to pick up on the finish). It’s great mixed with ginger ale or as their suggested serve of a Maple Syrup Old Fashioned.

They launched this whisky at this years Edinburgh Fringe in George Square Gardens and it’ll be interesting, a year from now to see if they hit their target!
