REVIEW : STAY - Hotel Hanza, Gdansk, Poland

We arrived at night, walking past the giant GDANSK letters and over the Green Bridge to the other side of the Motlawa river and using the Crane (Zuraw - the crane, used hundreds of years ago to load cargo onto ships) as our landmark, we easily found our gorgeous hotel for the evening, Hotel Hanza.

Review of Hotel Hanza, Gdansk, Poland

This side of Gdansk is spectacular. The Waterfront is packed with small, interesting shops and plenty of restaurants and bars as all waterfronts in many a city have. The lights on the water are hypnotic and you can quite easily spend many an hour just people watching or star gazing.

Hotel Hanza is a 4 star hotel situated right on the waterfront. a few metres from the Crane and offers the comfiest of sleeps and some of the best views across Gdansk, Old Town and the Motlawa Canal.

It is central to many shops, restaurants, bars, visitor attractions and is less than 10 minutes walk from the Dlugi Targ (Long Market or Royal Way, is the main thoroughfair through Gdansk), St Marys Church (one of the largest brick churches in the world)

and Mariacka Street, where you’ll find everything amber and the ‘pukers’ - gargoyle heads that spray out water collected from the guttering during rainstorms.

BEDROOM

I was lucky enough to stay in their Presidential Suite at the Hotel Hanza for the night and one word that springs to mind is spacious. In total this apartment covers 80m2.

The bedroom comes with a luxurious bed, a small seating area, TV, dressing table and built in wardrobes accessed by double glass sliding doors that take you into the lounge area.

BATHROOM

The bathroom is simple and classic in white with large jacuzzi bath, big bright mirror and a serious amount of floor space.

This suite however is the ideal space to throw open those curtains and take in the amazing view over Gdansk Old Town and this historic ship, the Soldek.

Hotel Hanza also comes with a beautiful spa (unfortunately I wasn’t there long enough to experience it) and their restaurant, Zafishowani, is one of the must eat places in Gdansk.

My stay was wonderful. The bed was like crawling into a cloud, and sleeping on air. I had possibly the best sleep on my foodie trip here. The room is well sound proofed, but that Gdansk isn’t necessarily a bustling busy city at this time of year, so it was quiet all round. The lounge area is large and was a lovely space in which to have my morning coffee. I gave the jacuzzi bath a whirl and it too was superb.

Breakfast is downstairs in the restaurant, providing continental buffet style with many a Polish dish included too.

The staff are wonderful and friendly, extremely helpful and for approx £145 per night, you really couldn’t ask for a better location for sightseeing or a better nights sleep.
