REVIEW OF FAT HIPPO BURGERS, EDINBURGH
They are building a reputation for serving up some of the most delectable burgers in the entire city and Fat Hippo has unquestionably become the ultimate destination for all the burger enthusiasts out there. Every single bite is an unbelievable explosion of flavours, capturing the essence of perfection through their flawlessly cooked, juicy patties, meticulously adorned with a delightful assortment of toppings that will leave your taste buds dancing with joy.
From the moment we stepped through the doors, we were greeted with warm smiles and genuine enthusiasm from the staff. Our serving staff were friendly and displayed a perfect balance between attentiveness and giving guests the space to enjoy their meal.
Everything on their menu is dirty. Down right filthy and bloody exceptionally delicious.
With eyes 17 times bigger than our bellies we couldn’t help ourselves, and we had to order starters!
Trash Browns - deep fried tater tots with liquid cheese and cajun onion strings £5.50. Yes everything screams “carb heaven”. These were incredible. Soft fluffy mouthfuls of joy.
Cheese Balls - Beer battered cheese balls, hot honey Buffalo sauce and ranch sauce £6.90. If you LOVE a good cheese string, this is the dish for you!. Check out my Instagram video of this CHEESE PULL HERE
Fat Hippo also serve up a decent variety of drinks including beers, ciders, cocktails, naughty slushes, milkshakes, wines and soft drinks.
I opted for a Mars Attack Shake - salted caramel, whipped cream, chocolate ice-cream, chocolate sauce and oreos! There's something undeniably comforting about a good milkshake and this was no exception.
The sheer abundance of flavours, textures, and aromas that graced my palate from the starters and the milkshake had left me in a blissful stupor and I hadn’t even set eyes on the main event yet!
In celebration of National Burger Day, Fat Hippo have unleashed the Beast! Welcome to REBORN SLIPPY!
I could not describe this burger any better so here’s what they have to say ~
“Pimped to perfection, this beauty has a heart of - well, butter, as handmade chipotle bacon butter sits in the centre, oozing with every bite, creating new levels of moist richness. Paired with tender, braised pork rib meat, the perfect juicy balance of flavour has been unlocked. And not just one, but two tantalising cheeses: smoked cheddar, offering that distinct mature note, and classic American cheese that melts in that perfect way you like. And it’s not just BBQ, it’s Alabama white BBQ, sweet, tangy, spicy and significantly cooler than its red counterpart. All topped off with pink pickled onions, pretty to look at and even prettier on your palette.”
This burger costs £14.90 and includes a side of your choice. We chose onion rings and dirty fries but options include slaw, variations of tater tots, fries, waffle fries and lettuce wedge.
This offer is running until 15th September so make sure you book.
With our tummies close to bursting, we looked enviously at the black vanilla ice-cream, then both nodded agree to return to Fat Hippo for a just a burger ….. and maybe some sides! and maybe ice-cream!
At Fat Hippo, pure burger heaven is attainable and will undoubtedly leave you yearning for more.
