FOOD : Butta Burger Brunch, Edinburgh

It’s bright, it’s shiny, its happy and its yellow. You cant miss Butta Burger on George Street, fast becoming a chicken burger institution in Edinburgh and a must dine spot for locals and visitors alike.

I’ve eaten a few Butta Burgers in the last year (yep these hips ain’t lying) and was thrilled to see that they now do brunch!

With restaurants slowly resuming as normal a service as they can, it was time to don the mask and dine in.

With the recent bout of glorious weather, the outside seating areas in George Street remind me of holidays abroad and has a sophisticated aesthetic about it; although you do need to book in advance as every square inch of pavement that entertains a table and chairs is swooped up quickly by sun worshippers (okay this is generally every person in Scotland. Even a hint of sun and its Taps Aff!)

REVIEW OF BUTTA BURGER BRUNCH, EDINBURGH

We sat inside as it was too hot for this redhead (yes I would have melted) but luckily Butta Burger have large folding doors bringing the inside out or the outside in, whichever you prefer, allowing us to catch the breeze and the buzz.

Drinks first - The Pink Gin Fizz - as the name suggests it gin, with a slight pink hue and fizzy! So good, we ordered another.

Crunchie House Milkshake (£6.00) - the perfect creaminess to thickness ratio and pops of super sweet mixed with milky flavours. Crunchie ontop was the cherry!

Brunch comes with three choices : Buttamilk Waffles, Buttamilk French Toast or Butta Muffins. There are of course a variety of toppings and filling for each choice.

Butta Muffins can come with filling combos but I liked the sound of the Double Sausage, Egg and Cheese (£9.00) or the Truffle Shroom (£8.00).

Buttamilk Waffles - Maple Pig (£9.00) with bacon and maple syrup or Strawberry and Nutella (£9.00) with creme fraiche.

We chose the classic Maple Chick (£9.50) and oh how we bow down to the Butta Burger Chefs! This is freaking incredible.

Big, juicy, succulent, fall apart, no need to chew chicken pieces coated in this otherwordly crispy batter laid out on top of waffles and drizzled with syrup.

Thighs have mercy on me please…. my mouth and my belly needed this.

Our other choice was the Buttamilk French Toast. This come available with a choice of two toppings - The Classic French (£9.00) of bacon and maple syrup and the Strawberries & Cream (£9.00) with strawberries, cream fraiche and maple syrup.

Of course, the Classic French was our choice and again this was incredible. Five slices of deep-fried buttamilk eggy toast meant that the outside crust was crispy and gnarly, giving way to a soft chew and a melt in the mouth centre. Atop lay several slices of crispy bacon which was then all drenched in lashings of maple syrup (I asked for extra syrup).

The toast lapped up every single pool of syrup and soon not a morsel remained.

Had I not been stuffed with Butta staff on hand to help squeeze me and my belly out the door and roll me down the hill, I would of happily remained seated until my hunger dragon reawakened so that I could tuck into one of their finger licking Chicken Kiev Butta Burger with parmesan and black garlic dip.

If you haven’t been to Butta Burger, book yourself a table and if you can’t get there, at least head to their website or Instagram page and drool over their burgers.

I was invited by Butta Burger to review their brunch menu. Food and drink were complimentary but the views are very much my own.
