STAY : Z Hotels, a very comfortable budget option

London hotels can be notoriously pricey, and even budget accommodations often stretch the wallet. When I checked into the Z Hotel in central London, my expectations were modest at best. My reservation noted that the room lacked a window, and recalling a less-than-pleasant stay at an Easy Hotel years ago, I couldn't help but feel a bit apprehensive about what awaited me.

However, I must admit, I was thoroughly delighted by every aspect of my stay. Without a doubt, I'll be choosing Z Hotels for the majority of my future trips to London.

Z Hotels are strategically located in major cities across the UK like London, Liverpool and Glasgow. They provide compact, well-appointed rooms that know how to maximise space and functionality.

My room did have windows, albeit internal ones, but it was still light and airy and provide a wee breeze of fresh air if required. The rooms have modern amenities such as free wi-fi, flat screen TV’s which was on the wall at the end of the bed with Sky & TNT Sports, tea and coffee making facilities, complimentary water, en-suite bathrooms with a rainfall shower and complimentary toiletries.

There are USB and plug sockets perfectly positioned bedside and table side, and aircon/heating for you to adjust to suit your needs.

I was impressed by the clothes hanging facilities, which consisted of a wall with hooks for bags and coats, along with a few coat hangers for clothing. Minimal but functional.

In the Fleet Street Hotel, the reception area is conveniently situated opposite the elevator and stairs and the staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. At reception, you'll find complimentary fruit and water too. The perks don’t end there—they also offer members (it’s free to join) a complimentary cheese plate and glass of wine every evening during their stay, plus a 10% discount when booking directly through their website.

I enjoyed a wee glass of Picpoul and a very substantial cheese plate with grapes, chutney, 3 cheeses and some crackers!

The dining area is situated to the left of the entrance. The décor is modern, chic, and minimal, yet remains comfortable and inviting. While breakfast is not included, you can enjoy it for a minimal charge and provides a convenient and satisfying start to the day. Their breakfast spread includes a variety of freshly baked pastries, breads, and waffles, meats and cheeses, along with a selection of cereals, yogurt, and fruit. You can also enjoy a range of hot beverages, such as coffee, tea, and hot chocolate, as well as refreshing juices.
