My Top 5 Places to Eat & Drink during the Fringe in Edinburgh's Southside

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is a whirlwind of artistic chaos that engulfs the historic streets of Scotland’s capital. It’s a kaleidoscope of performers, from comedians to acrobats, musicians to magicians, all vying for attention. The air buzzes with anticipation as venues overflow, ticket queues snake around corners, and impromptu street performances surprise passersby. It’s a delightful madness—a collision of creativity, passion, and sheer determination—that transforms Edinburgh into a vibrant, unpredictable stage where anything can happen.

Edinburgh’s Southside bustles with some of the larger performance venues such as The Pleasance, Just the Tonic Nucleaus at the Charteris, Summerhall and Queens Hall and is within close proximity of other areas in the city centre such as the Cowgate, the Royal Mile and the Meadows.

The Edinburgh Fringe is a truly immersive experience but there are times when you will need an escape, a break, a little time out from all the hustle and bustle, and believe me, there is A LOT!

Edinburgh’s Southside offers a delightful culinary escape during the Fringe. When you crave respite from the crowds and shows, consider these charming bars and restaurants:
