STAY : Riverside B&B, Ullapool

Firstly, I have to apologise for taking so long to write up this review as its a glowing one.

Ullapool is a fishing village at the start of the Northern Highlands (NC500), the Calmac ferry port to cross to Stornoway, Isle of Lewis and such a busy wee all year holiday destination.

If you are planning a holiday or a visit to Ullapool or the NC500, it is advisable to book well in advance. Ullapool has a decent amount of hotels, B&B’s, and places to stay but these fill up super quick.

We were so lucky to discover Riverside B&B (not to be confused with the Riverview B&B next door) which is located at the very top of Quay Street. It’s super easy to find and you literally only have to walk straight down the hill to access Tesco, The Seafood Shack, The Seaforth Restaurant (check out their Sticky Toffee Pudding HERE), The Dipping Lugger Restaurant (review HERE) and the Ferry Port. The B&B is 300m from the harbour so its not a long walk at all!

The check-in at Riverside B&B was easy and seamless. Payment is taken on arrival, you’re handed your keys, yes actual room keys, provided with breakfast instructions and then directed to your room. Within a few minutes, you’re flopping on the bed and taking a breather.

REVIEW OF RIVERSIDE BED AND BREAKFAST, ULLAPOOL

I was located the room directly at the front door. The room is extremely sound proofed and you wont hear a sound from the outside, nor people coming and leaving the establishment.

The room was large, with a big comfy bed and a seating area. A very well appointed room in neutral colour tones with some hints of Scottishness - the Harris Tweed accessories on the bed, Tunnocks Wafers and paintings of crofts bringing in subtle splashes of colour.

The room comes with Smart TV, free Wi-Fi and tea/coffee tray.

It’s very peaceful and relaxing.

All guest rooms come with en-suite which is spacious, with a large power shower, good lighting and a radiator towel rail to heat up those fluffy white towels for when you come out the shower.

The breakfast room is located at the far end of the B&B and is a well lit and bright space. They have a breakfast spread offering a continental style type breakfast - find cereals, fruit, fruit juices here but you can also order a full Scottish Breakfast or parts thereof - eggs, bacon, black pudding, local sausage or choose the vegetarian option. The breakfast host is most accommodating and extremely friendly and only too happy to get your breakfast how you like it.

Riverside B&B also have a lovely welcoming and warm lounge area where you can grab a dram and put your feet up.

Check out is even simpler than check in - you just drop your keys off at reception and head out the door.

There is parking available directly outside the B&B but there is also loads on free on street parking around the B&B too.

I genuinely enjoyed my stay here. There was no fuss, no long waits for check-in and out, its clean (spotless in fact) and extremely comfortable. I have recommended this B&B several times over the last few months and wouldn’t hesitate to return here time and time again.

THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT RIVERSIDE B&B:

  • They are closed on Fridays and Saturdays throughout 2023 due to a shortage of staff

  • Their breakfasts cater for vegetarians

  • They do consider large group bookings

  • They have a bike shed and drying room

Room tariff : Double Twin = £90 - £120 or Single = £70 - £80
