REVIEW OF BORODALE HOuse, ISLE OF RAASAY DISTILLERY

Catching the ferry from the Isle of Skye to the Isle of Raasay is like embarking on a pilgrimage journey. The ferry is small but it glides through the cerulean waters and navigates the crossing with ease. Within a few minutes the rugged coastline of Skye gives way to the enchanting beauty of Raasay and offers panoramic views of the surrounding islands. Driving onto Raasay's shores is magical and just around the corner from the ferry terminal is the Isle of Raasay Distillery.

As you approach Borodale House, you are immediately captivated by its striking architecture and the unparalleled views of the surrounding rugged terrain. The Raasay distillery building stands majestic against the rugged landscapes and its modern design seamlessly blends with the historic building that is Borodale House.

Much like the exterior of this building, inside Borodale House, the guest rooms, restaurant, guest lounge, shop and bar all flow into each other.

There are 6 guest rooms at Borodale House and all offer a lovely experience for visitors seeking both comfort and luxury. Each room is thoughtfully designed to capture the essence of island living. The rooms boast a perfect blend of contemporary elegance and traditional charm, featuring modern furnishings and plush bedding. Touches of the distillery are woven into the room, like Raasay whisky and glencairn glasses placed in the sideboard for a wee nightcap and prints and paintings are carefully curated showing island life and toning in with the decor colours reflecting the sea, sand and whisky.

For me the bar at the distillery is the gem in this crown. It has a rustic charm and warm ambiance, but its polished and friendly at the same time. The bar showcases the distillery's own expressions and provides tastings and tours to guide you through the diverse flavours and offer insights into the art of whisky production. The views are incredible and whether you’re sipping a dram or a coffee (designated driver) this is one spot you want to enjoy it from.
