STAY : Four Seasons, St Fillans, Scotland

St Fillans is a gorgeous wee village in the central highlands, Perth and Kinross, in Scotland. The village lies at the eastern end of Loch Earn, west of Comrie where the River Earn leaves the loch. It sits in the Trossachs National Park.

You’ll just all of a sudden come upon St Fillans, you turn a corner and it’s there. It’s a beautiful drive from Edinburgh with several picturesque hot spots along the way.

I was taking my wee Mammie away for an overnight stay at the Four Seasons in St Fillans; a hotel located on the banks of Loch Earn with spectacular views out over the loch.

The area is so peaceful and quiet, that it was a lovely escape from the city. The weather was kind to us to - although cool, the skies remained clear and blue which just made everything else that much brighter and happy.

FOUR SEASONS HOTEL, ST FILLANS, LOCH EARN

Initially, The Four Seasons had booked us in a room upstairs but I had stupidly forgotten to mention that my mum is unable to climb stairs and they have no elevator. However, the manager, Sue came to our rescue and organised us an easy accessible chalet perched up on the hillside with drive up access right to the door. Perfect.

At the Four Seasons, they have 3 types of accommodation.

The Hotel Bedrooms - large family and dog friendly rooms with large bathrooms. They have classic double or twins, Superior and Four Poster Romance rooms ranging from approx £50 to £100 pppn.

Woodland Chalets - family and dog friendly and they come with a master double or twin bedroom and a second room with either a single or twin bunk-beds. Prices range from £50-£70 pppn.

Vivaldi’s Self Catering - this has a sitting room that enjoys views across the marina at Loch Earn. It offers one double and one twin room, with a family bathroom and a fully equipped kitchen.

Our chalet came with a full wooden interior. You enter into the smaller room with a single bed, then walk through past the bathroom, and a wee area for making your tea, then into the main room in the chalet.

It has superb views over the hotel rooftop and onto the loch beyond. The sun streamed into our room and made it nice n cosy. Mum was quite happy perched in the chair, cuppa in hand looking out over the loch.

The single beds were comfy and for a mother and daughter, perfect. During the day the chalet is cosy but as soon as the night draws in, the temperature plummets. Unfortunately, the storage heaters don’t do much work in the dead of night but luckily the Four Seasons have some mega fluffy cosy blankets tucked away in the cupboards, no doubt for nights like this.

Unfortunately, their two AA Rosette award winning restaurant, Meall Reamhar, was closed on our visit so we went for dinner and drinks in their Tarken Bistro/Bar. The views are what you come for as the bistro area feels fairly unloved.

We enjoyed fish n chips and they managed to cater for my Mammies coeliac too. We enjoyed a cheese platter afterwards and just sat watching the sun set and talking nonsense. A lovely setting to spend quality time with your mum.

Breakfast the following morning was served with this view. You just cant get away from it - not that you would want to.

Breakfast was nice enough. They have a basic continental breakfast available or you can order a cooked breakfast ~ eggs (whichever way you choose), bacon, haggis, black pudding etc.

After we had a lovely lazy check out, we decided to meander our way back to Edinburgh and drove around Loch Earn, stopping at The Broch Cafe for another much needed cuppa tea and a gluten free treat.

They are situated at the edge of woodland of the national park and have outdoor and indoor seating, serving a wide variety of gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options and dog friendly.

We also stopped in the very bustling tourist town of Callander and bought a few gifts and the obligatory fudge!

We had a lovely stay away at the Four Seasons. The hotel was clean and comfortable but don’t get it confused with the world renowned Four Seasons; this hotel is a little tired and could do with some refurbishment. However, you come here for the view, dog-walking and outdoor activities!

I was invited by The Four Seasons to review their accommodation. Accommodation was complimentary but everything else was paid for. The views are very much my own
