STAY : Fairmont Hotel, St Andrews, Scotland

Fairmont St Andews is an elegant and spacious 520 acre resort perched on the coastal cliffs of St Andrews in Scotland.

FAIRMONT HOTEL ST ANDREWS

Primarily a golf resort it also comes equipped with a luxurious spa including jacuzzi, sauna and swimming pool, fabulous dining opportunities in its 5 restaurants/bar/dining areas and offers stunning views out over the North Sea.

It’s 5 star luxury all the way from the large oversized sofas in the lobby and the large fireplace which come Winter, to be greeted by a roaring fire will be the perfect welcome; to the check in desk with staff that are so friendly and helpful.

But we were here to try the International Sunday Brunch and made our way down the grand sweeping staircase to the Atrium. A space that will take your breathe away with its 60m long ceiling art installation ‘Zephyr’ created by artist George Singer flooded with light from the abundance of glass panes atop the ceiling and the side of the atrium.

FAIRMONT ST ANDREWS SUNDAY LUNCH

We headed towards Squires Restaurant, a multi functional and adaptable space where the space can be made more intimate or opened up to allow for breakfast and Sunday lunch dining.

The International Sunday Brunch is a vast array of dishes that will satisfy most palates. There is so much food here that you will want to dive right in and taste a bit of everything.

I tucked into parma ham and melon salad as well as the rocket and parmesan.

If you are not one for salads, try the pastry section. Every pasty from sticky cinnamon buns, to croissants to pan au chocolat!

They have three main sections - From the Land, From the Sea and the Carvery (although all stations are substantial).

From the Sea - Soft flaky fillets of fish to big juicy langoustines and everything fishy inbetween.

From the Carvery - succulent joints of beef, pork and gammon with every trimming your wee heart could desire.

Ginormous Yorkies and lashings of deep hearty beef gravy.

From the Land - this Jacobs Ladder Beef Rib was my favourite. The bone fell out and the meat was super tender.

I did have some veg with all that meat!

Then there is the dessert station. Holy moly you could spend several hours eating jelly, custard, cakes, bakes, tarts, ice creams, chocolates…. the list and the dessert table goes on and on and on.

But then there is the chocolate fountain; and its a well lush chocolate fountain with giant strawberries, pineapple chunks, melon, biscotti, marshmallows, rice crispy treats, fudge and tablet.

Such a pleasurable thing to do - hold a treat under the luxurious waterfall of chocolate!

And to finally finish off the grand occasion, an ice cream from local world renowned St Andrews Gelateria, Jannettas.

FAIRMONT HOTEL ST ANDREWS ROOMS

Time to book in to our room. We checked into the Fairmont View Room overlooking the front of the hotel and the golf courses with partial view of the ocean and St Andrews town in the distance.

Fairmont St Andrews have a mixture of rooms like any other hotel and our suite costs on average £150 per night depending on availability and time of year.

The bathrooms are large, modern and luxurious with a fabulously large bathtub and a walk in shower.

Fluffy, soft white bathrobes are supplied and definitely made for wrapping yourself up after a long soak in the bath.

The lovely luxurious toiletries from Le Labo will take you bath soak to the next level too.

As a wee welome gift, Fairmont sent us a complimentary chocolate platter.

The hotel is truly gorgeous and a true place that you can just relax in.

All in all my stay at Fairmont St Andrews was outstanding in every way and I genuinely couldn’t fault it. The staff are fantastic, and pay such close attention to detail knowing your needs well before you know your own. Warm, friendly staff and great banter from the concierge’s.

The food was delicious and so much of it that I reckon you could spend a week here and still never make it through the International Sunday Brunch.

Our stay was very relaxing, and we were seriously thinking about just hiding here for the rest of our lives - if only!

My Spoon Award : Tartan Spoon 10/10

I was invited by Fairmont St Andrews to review their International Sunday Brunch menu. Food, drink and accommodation were complimentary but the views are very much my own.
