NEWS : Tesco boosts its award-winning beer and cider range for spring

Those looking to expand their at-home drinking options need look no further than Tesco, as the supermarket has just added over 40 new beers and ciders to its shelves.

Tesco, which was last month crowned the UK’s Best Independent Craft Beer Retailer (Multiple) by the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA), introduced the beers and ciders in select stores and online last week. The new products include craft beer exclusives, twists on traditional styles and existing favourites in new formats.

TESCO NEW BEER AND CIDER RANGE

Highlights include:

Evil Twin More or Less Evil Hazy Pale Ale, £1.80 / £6 (330ml / 4 x 330ml, 5% vol.)

Available as part of the Any 3 for £5 deal (until 31 August) and as a 4-pack within the 2 for £9 deal (until 10 August) Evil Twin founder Jeppe, is a ‘gypsy brewer’, which means he produces his beer range at different breweries around the world, rather than at one single site. With ten years’ globe-trotting under his belt, he’s a well-known figure in the craft beer world and this hazy, hoppy pale ale is testament to the skills he’s picked up along the way. It is bright, crisp and refreshing, yet bold and full bodied.

North Brewing Co. Sputnik Pale Ale, £1.80 / £6 (330ml / 4 x 330ml, Vegan, 5% vol.)

Available as part of the Any 3 for £5 deal (until 31 August) and as a 4-pack within the 2 for £9 deal (until 10 August) North Brewing Co. is a Leeds-based brewery that was set up by legendary craft beer venue North Bar. This dry-hopped pale ale is golden in colour, with a light body and crisp, fresh flavour. Brewed using a combination of US hops, it is highly aromatic with bright citrus and pine aromas, underscored by punchy tropical fruit notes.

Northern Monk Tropical World Tropical Smoothie IPA, £3 (440ml, 6.2% vol.)

This tropical smoothie-inspired IPA from Leeds brewery Northern Monk is bursting with fruit notes. Ripe mango, pineapple and passionfruit are clear and prominent in both aroma and flavour. As the name suggests, it has a smooth, almost creamy texture, achieved through the use of lactose in the brew.

Salt Beer Factory Ikat DDH DIPA, £3 (440ml, Vegan, 8% vol.)

Saltaire brewery Salt Beer Factory pay homage to their hometown’s history of textile manufacture in the naming of their beers, like this fruity DIPA named after an Indonesian method of patterned weaving. Double dry-hopped using Mosaic, Amarillo and Citra hops, it has a bold, yet balanced, flavour profile. Expect tropical notes of guava, mango, passion fruit and lychee and a smooth mouthfeel.

Adnams Ghost Ship Citrus Pale Ale, £4.75 (4 x 440ml, 4.5% vol.)

Available as part of the 2 for £9 beer deal (until 10 August) Inspired by tales of old smuggling ships along the Suffolk coast, this classic pale ale is hauntingly good and full of citrus and biscuit aromas, with a refreshing hoppy bite. Brewed with a selection of Pale Ale, Rye Crystal and Cara malts, it has a light colour and rounded body. Newly available as a handy four-can multipack, it is an ideal match for spicy curry or fish and chips.

Henry Westons Vintage Rosé Cider, £2.20 (500ml, Vegan, 5.5% vol.)

Henry Weston first started crafting his eponymous cider from Herefordshire apples in 1880. New to the range, this rosé version is full-bodied, medium-dry and naturally cloudy. Made from apples grown in a single year’s harvest, it is slowly matured and spends time in aged oak vats, which ensures exceptional character and depth of flavour.

Crabbie’s Rhubarb, £1.70 (500ml, 4% vol.)

Available as part of the Any 3 for £5 deal (until 31 August) Made to a closely guarded secret recipe, this new twist on the popular ginger beer from John Crabbie & Co., combines the sweet, tangy flavour of rhubarb with the fiery spice of the original. Pour over ice and add a slice of lime, for a bold and refreshing summer serve.
