DRINK : Salty Citrus Gin Cocktail with Landfall Gin

By now, you’re probably aware of my love affair with the Outer Hebrides. I’ve savoured my way through these Scottish Isles, from the tip of Lewis down to Harris, Uist, and Barra. The magic lies not only in the stunning landscapes but also in the sumptuous food and drink.

Fresh seafood and local ingredients, paired with craft ales, gin, and whisky, create a paradise for food lovers. While you may be familiar with Harris Gin and Barra Gin, let me introduce you to Lewis’s latest gem: Landfall, a small-batch craft gin.

SALTY CITRUS GIN COCKTAIL recipe WITH LANDFALL GIN

Gerald and Nat relocated to the Isle of Lewis five years ago to establish Stornoway Distillers. Their commitment to sustainability and community is as strong as their passion for crafting exceptional spirits. Gerald, a forager, meticulously curates the flavour profiles of each expression.

While they search for a permanent home for their new still, their inaugural batch was distilled in Aboyne, a small craft distillery in the Scottish Highlands. The gin, infused with their hand-foraged Hebridean botanicals, was then finished and bottled in Stornoway. You can find it for sale at their shop on Cromwell Street, Stornoway or online HERE

They have just released two small batch craft gins - Landfall Island Dry Gin and Landfall Navy Strength Gin.

Landfall Premium Island Dry Gin from Stornoway Distillers Co. 42%

Flavoured by the rugged coastline of Lewis. With hand foraged Hebridean botanicals, Landfall is a deliciously Scottish spirit. Bright citrus notes balance woody juniper, spice, and the salty umami of bladderwrack seaweed.

Landfall Gin draws on Stornoway’s maritime heritage, and the foraged seaweed and botanicals represent the handshake between land and sea that occurs there.

Landfall Premium Navy Strength Gin from Stornoway Distillers Co. 57%

Distilled with the same mix of hand foraged Hebridean botanicals as their Island Dry Gin. Bottled at 57% ABV for a bigger, bolder flavour. A deliciously Scottish blend of Heather, Bog Myrtle, and Bladderwrack.

Here’s my Summer Cocktail using Stornoway Distillers Landfall Island Dry Gin.

The SALTY CITRUS COCKTAIL really plays on the saltiness that is so evident in this gin but also bigs up the citrus notes with sweet oranges. If you like all things citrus, this is the cocktail for you.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 large oranges

  • 1 lemon

  • 25ml Landfall Island Dry Gin

  • Ice

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tsp of salt

METHOD

  • In a shaker, juice the two oranges and the lemon. Add in the gin and shake well.

  • In a shallow dish, blend your brown sugar and salt. This is for the rim of your glass.

  • Slice a piece of your orange rind off and use this to wet the rim of you glass. Then dip your glass rim into the sugar and salt mix.

  • Once your glass rim is well coated in salt and sugar mix, add a good amount of ice.

  • Strain in your orange, lemon and gin mix.

  • Depending on your glass, you can serve as is or top it up with tonic.

  • Finish with a sprig of rosemary.

Then find a spot in the sunshine and enjoy!
