FOOD : Shakedown Burgers, Edinburgh

What do Manchester and Edinburgh have in common? I’m sure many things, but the one seriously delicious thing they have in common is Shakedown! They offer a mouthwatering menu. Whether you prefer beef or chicken, Shakedown has you covered. Don’t forget to add a side of crispy fries and one of their notoriously sweet shakes or waffles!

Shakedown in Corstorphine exudes an industrial charm, reminiscent of a converted shipping container. Its modern, creative ambiance blends contemporary aesthetics with simplicity. The decor features clean lines and minimalistic elements, punctuated by vibrant yellow neon accents. Whether you’re grabbing a quick lunch or dinner, this spot packs a punch with style and flavour.

REVIEW OF SHAKEDOWN BURGERS IN EDINBURGH

The establishment boasts three cosy booths and additional seating along the window-facing bar, and the bar directly opposite the booths. Notably, the entire space maintains impeccable cleanliness.

On arrival you are warmly greeted and walked through the menu. There’s everything from beef burgers to chicken burgers, to grilled cheese toasties. There’s Fries (loaded, skin-in and cheesy), Wraps and Salads, Sides (hashbrowns, onion rings, chicken tenders), Sauces (Ranch, Smokey Mustard, Barbeque) to Shakes (Strawberry Melt, to Bubble Trouble) and cheesecakes and waffles!

And you can add extra to just about everything - extra sauce and extra toppings.

Good to note that they also do Kids Meals for £6.75. Choose a main of Cheese Burger, 3 Mozzarella Sticks or Side Chicks plus fries plus water or a fruit shoot.

The Half Loaded Fries were generously topped with diced chicken, tangy gherkins, red onion, and a luscious medley of sauces - cheese sauce added the creaminess, Stateside sauce adds a touch of smokiness, while the zesty buffalo sauce provides a fiery kick. Each bite is a harmonious blend of textures and tastes, from crispy to creamy, savoury to spicy. It’s a flavour explosion that leaves you craving more! Portions are very generous and this is a meal in itself!

The onion rings were crispy, golden-brown slices of onion deep-fried to perfection. The outer layer was crunchy, while the inner onion was and sweet, adding a delightful crunch and flavour to the meal.

The Beefed Up! Burger with two tender beef patties was a flavour explosion! The crispy, seared crust of the patties locked in the juicy goodness. As you take a bite, the melted cheese oozed, complementing the savoury beef. The caramelized onions added sweetness, while the fresh lettuce and tomato provided a refreshing crunch. The house relish added tanginess, and a smear of mustard ties it all together. It’s a symphony of textures and tastes—a burger lover’s dream! I now know why its their Signature Burger.

The American Fried Chicken Burger was incredibly juicy with the chicken fillet perfectly cooked. I love that the chicken fillet overhangs the bun with all that crispy crunchy goodness.

The shakes are excellent, a velvety symphony of flavours and textures. They are a thick, frosty blend of creamy ice cream—classic vanilla, rich chocolate, or indulgent strawberry—all swirled together with cold milk. The consistency is just right: not too thin, not too thick. The wide straw allows easy access to this creamy sweet nectar. They are sweet but boy oh boy are the delicious!

Lastly, we have to talk about the waffles. These dessert waffles come with a variety of toppings. The texture of the waffle was a delightful balance between crispy and tender. The outer layer was golden-brown and slightly crunchy. As you bit into it, the interior revealed a soft, fluffy crumb. It’s this contrast—crispy edges and a soft centre smothered in chocolate sauces—that makes these waffles so irresistible!

Shakedown needs to be on your burger radar. They have an extensive menu with diverse burger options with burger toppings and sauces that you can customise. It’s a chance to create a burger that suits your taste perfectly! Don’t forget the sides—crispy fries, onion rings, and milkshakes!

It’s a great place for a family outing, a date, or hanging out with friends, they provide a relaxed setting serving up portions of delicious comfort food.
