REVIEW OF THE CHAMPAGNE BRUNCH AT ONE SQUARE, SHERATON HOTEL, EDINBURGH

The boozy brunch is served in their bar area which is utterly gorgeous and my favourite space in the hotel. The tables and chairs that line the floor to ceiling windows, is where you want to be sat. The high-back, cosy, and comfortable armchairs are like a warm embrace from a loved one. They feature plush cushioning that cradles your body, offering support and softness in perfect harmony. Upholstered in soft, luxurious fabrics, these armchairs invite you to sink in and relax. With armrests at just the right height, they are the ultimate retreat for a boozy brunch, sipping on champagne and creating your own bubble with your friends. They create a perfect cocoon for moments of pure comfort and indulgence.

Upon arrival, you are immediately greeted with a glass of the exquisite La Garde Ecossaise Champagne from The Leith Export Co., setting a tone of luxury and celebration for the event. Shortly after, a beautifully arranged welcome platter is placed on your table, laden with a delightful assortment of seasonal fruits such as juicy melon, refreshing watermelon, sweet pineapple, and a medley of vibrant berries. Alongside these fresh fruits, you'll find an array of homemade granola bars, their nutty crunch perfectly complementing the rest of the spread. Freshly baked Danish pastries, still warm from the oven, add a touch of buttery sweetness. Indulgent black forest brownie panna cotta provides a decadent chocolate treat, while waffles drizzled with rich maple syrup offer a comforting, classic favourite. This lavish spread ensures that your taste buds are tantalised from the very first bite.

Next, you are presented with an enticing selection of à la carte options that are sure to satisfy any brunch enthusiast. One standout is the Toasted Crumpet, topped with slow-cooked brisket and finished with a luscious smoked cheese sauce, blending comfort and indulgence in every bite. Another option is the Toasted Muffin, paired with a sweet mustard Hollandaise and pickled shallot, and your choice between smoked pulled ham hock or sea salt spinach, offering a savoury twist on a classic favourite.

For those who prefer something lighter, the menu also features Salmon served with perfectly poached eggs. If you have a sweet tooth, try the Brioche with Sweet Eggs and Nutella—a decadent treat that brings a dessert-like element to your brunch experience. The Spiced Chickpea Bowl with feta, poached eggs, and avocado provides a vibrant and healthy option, packed with flavours and textures. Each dish is meticulously crafted, offering a fresh take on traditional brunch fare that feels both familiar and exciting.

We opted for the venison sausage with redcurrant, onion, rocket, and shaved parmesan on a toasted bagel—a choice that did not disappoint. The sausages were densely packed and bursting with robust flavour, their rich, gamey taste beautifully complemented by the sweetness of the redcurrant and the tanginess of the onion. The fresh rocket added a peppery kick, while the parmesan brought a nice salty element that balanced the dish perfectly. However, the combination did call out for some extra moisture, which came in the form of a few dollops of good ol’ brown sauce—a classic, savoury touch that tied everything together beautifully. Every bite was a delightful blend of hearty, sweet, salty, and tangy notes, making the meal as satisfying as it was flavourful.

And although champagne is offered and drank, I can't quite call it brunch without a good cuppa tea. The comforting warmth of Earl Grey and English Breakfast tea was just what we needed to round off a truly wonderful, belly-busting brunch. The fragrant notes of bergamot in the Earl Grey and the robust, malty flavours of the English Breakfast tea provided the perfect ending, leaving us feeling utterly content and ready to face the rest of the day. It's that final, soothing touch that makes brunch feel complete.

I was invited by One Square to review their menu. Food and drink were complimentary but the views are very much my own.
