REVIEW : EAT - Waagyu Burgers
Wagyu beef has its origins in Japan and was only in the 1970’s that wagyu beef was allowed for export. Wagyu means Japanese Cow - Wa meaning Japanese and Gyu meaning cow.
Chef Dean Banks, after setting about creating the best from the sea, a celebration of Scottish Seafood with Haar at Home, is now turning his talents to creating the best from the land and has opened Waagyu Burger.
Sourcing the best of British Wagyu beef, local pancetta, brioche buns from a bakery in Fife and all the sauces made by his talented brigade, Chef has put together a luxury, premium quality burger kit for you to make at home.
REVIEW : WAAGYU BURGERS AT HOME KIT
You’ll receive all the ingredients needed to assemble four fantastic burgers.
4 x wagyu beef burgers only seasoned with salt and pepper
4 x Barnets Bakery sesame brioche buns
4 x slices of mature cheddar
4 x slices of Hendersons Butchers pancetta
Baby gem lettuce
Tub of slow cooked caramelised onions
HaarBQ Burger mayo
The burgers are a decent size but I thinned them out further so that I could get more char on the surface of the meat before I popped them in the oven to finish them off. Just before I removed them from the oven, I added the cheese - time to take it to melting bubble stage!
Caramelised onions warmed through, bun cut, mayo spread, lettuce cracked and laid atop, finished off with the amazing cheese covered patty and those golden crispy pancetta strips.
A thing of beauty; not only to look at but also to eat. I was craving an incredible burger. I have this image of an incredible tasting burger in my head and nothing seems to come close to meeting my expectations. Although, let me be clear, I am not sure what I imagine even exists, so there is an extremely high standard in my head!
But, this came close. The aroma from the burgers whilst cooking, did make my mouth water. The buns were soft with a good spring back, and those caramelised onions - well, just sell me a vat of these.
The flavour combo is classic - a tried and trusted taste sensation. When you take a bite, you hit the soft bun, then the crunch of the salty bacon, the gooey cheese, that incredible umami beef of the burger, the sweetness and silkiness from the onions, clean crisp mouthful of the lettuce down to the barbeque sauce and back to soft breadroll again.
Take a bite! and you’ll take another and another… and when it’s finished you’ll realise that you made the right decision by only making one each instead of all four, cause that way you can do it all again.
You can order Waagyu Burgers online and they deliver on a Thursday although there are some Tuesday slots for Christmas and New Year.
The kits cost £39.95 and for under a tenner, I think these are some of the best burgers out there!

I was invited by Waagyu Burgers to review their Waagyu Burger Kit. Food was complimentary but the views are very much my own
