DRINK : Somewhere by Nico, Edinburgh - Embark on a Whimsical Culinary and Mixology Journey Inspired by “The Wizard of Oz”

Somewhere by Nico Edinburgh is an innovative cocktail experience that redefines what a bar and cocktail experience looks like by blending storytelling, multi-sensory mixology and experience together. With storytelling at the heart of the experience, guests are transformed into adventurers, with mixologists becoming the narrator, through enhanced narratives in every drink.

The design concept based on the cycles of sleep, Somewhere by Nico Edinburgh creates a tranquil backdrop that allows the guest to dream and be transported into another realm. Upon arrival a sense of cocooning is formed with parallel floor and ceiling details to create a sense of comfort and relaxation. Seating styles are soft and comforting, allowing the guest to dream and allowing the cocktail experience to take centre stage.

The bar becomes the theatrical platform with metallic finishes and softened circular elements. Taking advantage of the ceiling heights the space boasts large sculptural lighting elements that are hand crafted and bespoke to the site. Materials such as reflective metallics allows the space to transform with reflection and light, whilst the walls are dressed in textural venetian plaster, creating subtle movement and pattern, artwork plays on illusion and dimensions and adds to the overall sense of ' whimsical'  with a nod to the local landscape.

Lets begin our adventure and embark on a whimsical culinary and mixology journey inspired by the iconic tale of the Wizard of Oz.

Are you ready to follow the yellow brick road?

In this enchanting culinary and mixology adventure, they pay homage to the iconic tale of “The Wizard of Oz.” From dazzling cocktails to whimsical canapés.

The cocktail and mocktail that is delivered in a ruby slipper is a dazzling mix of ingredients that pays homage to the iconic red shoes worn by Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz." This enchanting concoction combines Lyre’s London Dry Spirit, bergamot, Chamomile and Primitivo Wine.

The vibrant red colour mirrors the striking hue of Dorothy's magical slippers, while the paler bottom half reminds me of the sparkle and allure of the famous shoes. It’s served with three delightful canapés inside a house – pay attention to every charming detail!

As we continue our whimsical journey, sip on the ‘I’ve a Feeling We’re Not in Kansas Anymore’ mocktail. It’s like stepping onto the yellow brick road, where every sip leads to new adventures.

Follow the Yellow Brick Road.

Our next stop: golden corn fritters with a jalapeño emulsion and a filo cannelloni. These dishes evoke the fields of corn that led Dorothy to her destination. Close your eyes and taste the magic!

‘If I Only Had the Nerve…Heart…Brain…’

Finally, the moment of decision! Which will you choose first:

  • Tin Woodman Mocktail or Cocktail: Reflecting the heart of the beloved character.

  • Cowardly Lion Cocktail: Bold and courageous, just like the lion.

  • Scarecrow Cocktail: For those seeking wisdom, like the Scarecrow.

Each cocktail is paired with small bites representing the Lion’s Mane, the brain, and the heart. Which path will you take?

Remember, this whimsical journey isn’t just about food and drinks – it’s about embracing the magic within us all. So click your heels (or raise your glass) and continue!

Our journey continues with a warning: “Beware of the sleepy odour of the deadly poppies!” These enchanting flowers hold a secret – their fragrance lulls you into slumber. But dare you breathe in the smoky aroma from the cocktail?

As you take another step into the magical world, you’re faced with a delightful decision. Choose between two different cocktails:

  1. Gin-Based Elixir: A potion infused with Campari and Vermouth, hiding a world of flavour.

  2. Vodka-Based Enchantment: A spellbinding concoction that’s crisp and herbaceous, it captures the essence of adventure.

And for those seeking a non-alcoholic option, the Herbaceous Hibiscus Mocktail awaits. It’s foamy, sweet, and dances with the flavours of hibiscus, grape, and lemon.

The Theatre Unfolds

The show must go on! The theatre continues with:

Witch’s Brew: A mysterious elixir in shades of yellow that swirls like a cauldron, tempting your taste buds tableside. This is paired with a deep purple and black leek ash risotto.

The Grand Finale

Finally, you arrive at the heart of the Emerald City. The Great Wizard himself awaits. His introduction? A reflective green box, intriguing and full of promise. Inside, discover my favourite mocktail: Minty White Chocolate Delight: Creamy oat milk mingles with the coolness of mint. It’s a sip of magic, a taste of Oz.

This delightful whirlwind of flavours celebrates Dorothy’s journey – from Kansas to the Emerald City and back. Let the enchantment transport you. Cheers to cocktails, mocktails, small plates, and the beloved story of Oz!
