UK's largest designated alcohol free bar comes with the perfect stress busting activity!

Black Axe Throwing Co is Edinburgh’s original and first-ever Axe Throwing pop-up after launching on Valentine’s Day 2018. It's now March 2023, and the Black Axe team is stronger than ever.

Black Axe Throwing Co Edinburgh now have their very own venue located at 27 Beaverhall Road, Edinburgh, EH7 4JE. Not just their own venue, but Black Axe Edinburgh is now home to the UK’s largest designated alcohol-free bar with the help of breweries from around the UK and beyond.

REVIEW : BLACK AXE THROWING, EDINBURGH

They boast a range of over 40 different beers which includes beers from Scotland’s only woman-owned non-alcoholic brewing company Jump Ship Brewing, as well as Edinburgh’s non-alcoholic spirit Talonmore inspired by the versatility of the city’s historic charm, natural surroundings and unique festival spirit.

They have bottled beers and draft which are all listed on a large blackboard behind the bar. Nice and easy to read.

I tried out Brewdogs Lost AF and was very pleasantly surprised. I have to admit it was quite nice to have a ‘pint’ and then be able to drive home!

Brewdogs Lost AF non-alcoholic beer has a sweet aroma, quite citrus led which is then carried over into the taste. There’s grapefruit, passionfruit and all rounder tropical notes from this.

Onto the stress busting activity which I have to say is so enjoyable especially if you have some pent up rage and annoyance!

There are three lanes/pits/sections that allow two people per section. Each section has a large sand pit directly in front of the target boards with steel mesh on either side. It feels safe!

You are expertly led through your axe thrown session by Brendan, who will provide a full health and safety brief prior to you even picking up an axe. He will demonstrate how to throw an axe, how to hold it, where to stand, the best stance, how to retrieve your axe from the target board, sand pit or anywhere else you may have manage to throw it and he will guide you through your hour of throwing, keeping it interesting by introducing new ways to throw the axe and then conclude with a wee competition at the end!

There is endless banter, war cries are encouraged and some of your muscles may question your actions the following day - but its great fun and I could easily get hooked!

There are many axe-throwing experiences across the UK; however, Black Axe offers something different. A certain charm, a real experience, a welcoming feeling that will make you want to tell everyone you know what you have just done.

It really is the perfect stress-busting activity for a group of friends, team-building camaraderie amongst work colleagues, the ideal alternative date night or if you just need to free that rage (safely in a controlled environment of course!)

I say, book me in for a monthly session.
