After trying to eat breakfast/brunch in Stockbridge and being turned away at Scran and Scallie and the Raeburn, we decided to head back home to Leith and tried our luck on the busy side of Constitution Street where you are spoilt for choice. We settled on Nobles Cafe Bar & Restaurant and what a fine choice it was.
The sun was out, there was blue skies above us and life was good. (photo above taken by my brunch date PilotKim). We grab the last table outside of Nobles. A waitress soon appeared with menus and told us that there would be a 15 minute wait before we could order brunch but we could order our drinks in the mean time.
Drinks ordered – the obligatory Sunday lattes! Time to view the menu.
They have a separate brunch menu and you’ll find eggs all ways, with the Green Chilli and Chorizo Scrambled Eggs sounding particularly interesting or the Confit Portobello Mushrooms & Goats Cheese with poached eggs, shiitake mushroom salt & a potato & rosti. We were on the hunt for something lighter so we both settled on the Brioche French Toast with berries, berry compote and Chantilly cream. We asked them for one without the compote and they delivered.
If you are after something less savoury than a full Scottish breakfast but not overly sweet then this is the dish for you. The berries were large and plump and juicy and soft with a slight tartness. The compote soaked into the thick slices of egg dipped brioche bread and the cream was light yet it brought the whole dish together. A thoroughly delicious lip smackingly good brunch!
I think Leith is definitely the hot spot for breakfasts and brunches. So many great spots to choose from – but do remember to book!
