I’ll just put this out there. I love Mimi’s. I have always loved Mimi’s since they opened in Leith and my love affair with their French Toast began and I doubt it will ever wane.
Mimi’s Bakehouse first opened their doors in late 2010 and they have been adding to their Bakehouse empire ever since, opening up in Corstorphine and the Royal Mile. They are a family of bakers and long may their reign continue as most things, okay everything, that comes out of Mimi’s is utterly delicious.
Mimi’s is my default place to go for breakfasts (when I remember to book), cakes, lunches, cakes, afternoon teas, cakes, gluten free cakes, french toast and their scones ….mmmmm; and so it was an easy decision to make for 4 hungry people. We descended on Mimi’s for a mass French Toast pig-out and we did just that – pigged out and filled our bellies to the brim.
Two of us ordered the Terrific Savoury French Toast; tasty thick slices of white bloomer bread, free-range eggs and cream.
One served with Ramsay of Carluke’s award winning Ayrshire bacon and Canadian maple syrup. This of course was my choice. Crispy bacon and a pot of sweet maple stickiness to drown the eggy bread in. Heaven!
And the other with Crombie’s of Edinburgh pork and caramelised onion sausages and roasted cherry vine tomatoes. The sausagea are local and of the best quality from Crombies.
The other two ordered the Oh So Sweet! Mimi’s French Toast Stack; buttery brioche bun, free-range eggs and cream.
One served with Nutella and fresh berries & vanilla crème fraiche. The nutella is sandwiched in the middle and oozes out once you cut into it. Served with ripe berries providing the pops of sweet and sour.
The other was Biscoff and caramelised banana & vanilla crème fraiche. Again sandwiched in the middle with soft, mushy sweet bananas.
Tea and coffee were had too but that was merely a formality. We came for the french toast and we conquered it (or just ate the whole bl**dy lot!).
Thank you Mimi for my breakfast love, from one of your greatest fans…. TartanSpoon.
