I’m just putting this out there – I am not vegan, I’m not even a vegetarian. I’m not gluten free, soy free, refined sugar free or dairy free in fact I’m the complete opposite – give me the full version of everything. However, I am happy to try out and eat all the ‘free’ versions of food and drink, and if I like it, I’ll continue to purchase it and eat it.
And when a bakery contacts you and asks if they can send you cake to trial, you’re immediate reply is YES; and even more of a bonus if they taste great. This is the case with Keyk Bakery.
Keyk Bakery, formerly Blitz Patisserie is based in Falkirk and owned by Luda who is passionate about creating the healthiest and most delicious sweet treats or desserts that are raw (no baking) and are 100% Gluten-free, Dairy-free, Wheat-free and Free of Refined Sugar.
Firstly we have the Snickerz Slice and does resemble a very well known Chocolate bar except that you know the ingredients are much better for you!
The crust is made out of chocolate and cashew bits with a layer of almond vanilla and a layer of crunchy peanut butter. It has a really good peanut butter taste and I loved how the top layer of homemade chocolate cracks.
Ingredients are : Cashews, Dates, Himalayan pink sea salt, Cocoa powder, Almonds/almond meal, Maple syrup, Crunchy peanut butter, Lemon juice, Natural vanilla flavouring, Raw Organic coconut oil and peanuts.
Secondly, we have the Chocolate and Orange Cheesecake. You’ll bite into a mouth-watering chocolate almond base, a layer of zesty orange cheesecake, raspberry jelly ribbon, soft creamy chocolate layer and a thin layer of rich homemade chocolate sprinkled with freeze dried raspberries.
This was a winner – the flavours of the chocolate and the orange contrasted well but complimented each other superbly. The base was great again and the texture of the cheesecake really smooth and creamy.
Ingredients are : Almonds, Cashews, Dates, Desiccated coconut, Himalayan pink sea salt, Cocoa powder, Maple syrup, Raw organic coconut oil, Natural vanilla flavouring, Orange extract, freshly squeezed orange juice and zest, Goji berries and freeze dried raspberries.
Thirdly we have the Mango and Passionfruit Cheesecake. Zesty cashew base, lemon and poppy seed layer, topped with mango and passion fruit sorbet. Really tasty this one, but it looks like it would have a sharper taste than it does (but then I love a good tang!).
Ingredients are : Almonds, Cashews, Dates, Himalayan pink sea salt, freshly squeezed lemon juice and zest, Maple syrup, Raw organic coconut oil, Turmeric, Poppy seeds, Mangos, Passion fruits, Agar agar and gold dusted buckwheat groats.
Number four, we have the Strawberry Shortcake with almond extract cheesecake filling topped with strawberry jelly. You definitely get a strawberry hit with this one. The flavours are really fresh and you honestly wouldn’t know that you are eating a raw cake.
Ingredients are : Almonds, Cashews, Dates, Desiccated coconut, Himalayan pink sea salt, Maple syrup, Raw organic coconut oil, Natural vanilla flavouring, Lemon juice, Cacao butter, Strawberries, Crushed Pistachio and freeze dried strawberries.
Lastly, my favourite, the Turkish Delight. A soft chocolate almond meal crust, rich and creamy chocolate layer and pink rosewater-infused layer decorated with signature home-made chocolate and a sprinkle of crushed pistachios and freeze dried rose petals. The rose taste is quite strong but the slice is light and almost mousse like. A sheer delight to eat.
Ingredients are : Almonds/almond meal, Dates, Cocoa powder, Cashews, Water, Raw organic coconut oil, Maple syrup, Natural vanilla flavouring, Himalayan pink sea salt, Beetroot juice, Rosewater, Pistachios and freeze dried rose petals.
All in all, I really liked these cakes/dessert slices and would happy tuck into them again or feel very confident at serving these at a dinner party. They are well made with creamy, soft and light cheesecake fillings with wonderful flavours. You wouldn’t know they were vegan and if you are vegan or a ‘freebie’ then you’ll rejoice at having something so deliciously wonderful to tantalise those sweet tastebuds.
