St Andrew is Scotland’s patron saint and November 30 is our official day that we celebrate St Andrew’s Day with the rest of the world.
St Andrew’s philosophy was simple: share what you have with those less fortunate and be kind to each other. It’s also a similar ethos to that of Hard Rock Cafe and their Hard Rock Heals Foundation which gives money to community driven music programmes, bringing people together through the power of music and improving lives.
The Hard Rock Cafe has gone all out this year to celebrate St Andrews Day and I got to have a sneak bite or 10 of their delicious Caledonia Burger and cocktail made especially to celebrate this great day.
First up you’ll receive this gorgeous proud blue cocktail finished off with the Saltire Cross.
This is called the Saltire Rita Margarita with Jose Cuervo Silver Tequila, blue curacao and fresh squeezed margarita mix. It’s a large soor slush puppy with a good hit of tequila and some sweetness comes through from the sugared saltire cross.
But feast your eyes… this is the Caledonia Burger.
It’s got Chicken Breast. Soft, succulent and slightly chargrilled.
It’s got haggis. A thick peppery slice of Scotland’s national food.
It’s got bacon. Stripes of crispy, salty bacon.
All served on a toasted brioche bun with crisp lettuce and vine-ripened tomato.
Gosh it’s good!
It comes with a large portion of seasoned fries. Long ones and short ones, covered in a light seasoning and absolutely delicious. They arrived hot (hoorah) and lovely and fluffy. Not a grease spot in sight!
Now add this sauce to the mix and you will be in fries/burger heaven! This is the whisky peppercorn sauce and I wish they bottled this and sold it as I could smothered it on everything. It’s light and creamy and you can taste both the whisky and peppercorn but its not overpowering. Perfection. Chip dunkability – 10/10.
This Caledonia Burger and cocktail is available for one week only.
27th November to the 3rd December and costs £23.10. Booking is essential so give Edinburgh Hard Rock Cafe a call on 0131 2603000.
I promise you, it is absolutely fabulous.
We continued our dining experience finishing with a dessert, the Fresh Apple Cobbler. This is not included in the St Andrews Day Burger deal but as it’s large enough for two we thought why not. It’s served warm with vanilla ice cream and walnuts and caramel sauce. The apples are stewed and sweet, and sticky and cinnamon-y. It’s Christmas in a bowl.
Hard Rock Cafe is for us locals as well as the tourists. Give it a go the next time you are in George Street or visiting the Christmas Markets and want a fun place to go for something to eat. The staff are outstanding, they really know their stuff and will make you feel super welcome. Plus the memorabilia is amazing. As out waitress Natalia said ‘it’s like having dinner in a museum, but a really cool one’.
