With a passion for creating better drinks, Porter’s Gin founders Ben, Josh and Alex turned the basement of their bar in Aberdeen, Scotland into one the UK’s most innovative micro-distilleries. After three years of growing their gin both in the UK and internationally, the team are now ready to open its doors to the public.
The new space will feature four of their unique, modern, low-temperature stills in the purposefully renovated basement of Orchid Bar, where founders Alex Lawrence, Ben Iravani and Josh Rennie developed their recipe over three years ago. By investing in additional cold-distillation equipment, the team are able to expand their production process in-house and showcase how they make the gin to trade guests as well as consumers.
A new consumer experience will be launched in Summer 2018 that will provide visitors with a behind the scenes look at how the gin is made. The interactive sessions will allow guests to explore the intricacies of cold distilled gin, the art of balancing the botanicals recipe for Porter’s, and a cocktail masterclass to finish the session.
The team will also use the micro-distillery for research and development. The space will be available for colleagues throughout the on-trade to use for research and to create their own flavours and distillates. Alex Lawrence and the team will also use the space to experiment with botanicals and recipes for potential new expressions of Porter’s Gin.
A premium gin from Aberdeen, Porter’s has already enjoyed success in its ultra-competitive category, launching in several international markets including Singapore, South Korea, Japan and very shortly in the USA.
It has established itself as the gin of choice with bartenders in some of the leading cocktail bars in the UK and beyond, positioning itself as a modern classic brand.
