When August rolls around and the Festival Fringe roars back into town, every Edinburgh resident staying put for the summer knows that any trip into the city centre can quickly become an exercise in patience, with spiralling queues and city bars packed to the rafters with festival-goers. But this summer, there’s a whole new festival launching to provide the denizens of Edinburgh with a fun and relaxed alternative to the frenzy of the Fringe: Leith Chill Fest.
Launching on August 2nd, Leith Chill Fest is a vibrant celebration of EH6’s thriving bar scene. During the month of August and up until September 2nd, Leith will become a cocktail community, with eighteen of the district’s top bars offering an array of incredible cocktails that capture the true flavour of Leith, for just £5 each.
Beloved bars including Toast, Woodland Creatures, The Roseleaf, The Lioness of Leith, Finn & Bear and The Lord Nelson have all worked together to create an exciting programme for festival-goers to look forward to. From Sofi’s ‘Tropical Leith’ to Malmaison’s ‘Leith’s A Peach’, there’s a colourful cocktail concoction guaranteed to tickle your fancy, whatever your tastes may be.
It couldn’t be simpler to get involved
- Purchase your Chill Fest wristband for £5 from www.leithchillfest.com
- Collect it from Joseph Pearce or Malmaison.
- Keep it for the duration of the festival. Every time you head to one of the participating bars, simply show your wristband to the bartender to be entitled to that bar’s exclusive signature cocktail for just £5.
- The wristband can be used as little or as often as you like, so you can sample all sixteen signature cocktails throughout August and go back for your favourite whenever you fancy.
Sponsored by Leith Gin and organised by the teams behind Malmaison on The Shore and the Boda Bar Group, proceeds from Leith Chill Fest wristbands will be donated to two local charities supporting wellbeing for Leith residents. The first, Projekt 42, is a not-for-profit gym and wellness centre in the Newkirkgate Shopping Centre that focuses on strengthening the connection between mental health and physical fitness, and the second, Citadel Youth Centre on Commercial Street, provides the area’s young people with learning, leisure, friendship and support services.
To get involved, head to www.leithchillfest.com and make sure you’re following @ChillFestLeith on Facebook and Instagram. Share your cocktail snaps with hashtag #LeithChillFest.
