The Wine & Spirit Education Trust provides globally recognised education and qualifications in wines, spirits and sake, for professionals and enthusiasts. And anyone looking to expand their knowledge in wine can take these courses with Wine Events Scotland.
Level 1 in Wines : This is a great course for any wine enthusiast. No prior knowledge is necessary and if even if you have plenty of knowledge you’re likely to learn lots too.
You’ll find out about the main types and styles of wine, evaluating them through sight, smell, and taste. You’ll also gain the skills to describe wines, and make food and wine pairings. Personal preference plays a strong part in wine tasting and you should discover plenty about your favourite styles and many new ones.
It’s fun, as well as very informative and there’s lots of tasting to enjoy too. At the end there’s a multiple choice exam paper which will offer you an internationally recognised wine qualification and a WSET pin!

Level 2 in Wines & Spirits : This is a really interesting course and a great chance to taste lots of wines in a more structured – but fun – environment. We explore the major grape varieties as well as the most important wine regions in which they are grown. The main styles produced from these grapes are explained as well as key classifications and labelling terminology. We also learn a bit about spirits and liqueurs.
If you enjoy wine then go and join; you’ll learn lots more. The course is over three full Tuesdays – 5, 12 & 19 March. On the final day there’ll be a multiple choice exam paper. If you pass you’ll be rewarded with an internationally recognised qualification – it’s a must for both wine lovers and those working in the drinks trade.
