For the last couple of years Appetite for Change and the Cooking Up a Storm project (the social enterprise run by Kilted Lobster restaurant in Stockbridge) organise a Festive Feast where they treat their guests to a traditional, three-course festive meal in a restaurant, with a complimentary taxi to and from the event as well as gifting each family a supermarket vouchers to that they can buy some extra treats over the Christmas period.
The guests are families that struggle to make ends meet at Christmas and many can’t afford to give their kids the type of Christmas Day that the media suggests we’re all having. These are families that feel isolated, are facing financial hardship or just need a helping hand this Christmas time.
The meal is always cooked by award winning Chef Patron, Colin Hinds owner of the Kilted Lobster and this year it will be held in his restaurant in Stockbridge. Cooking Up a Storm is the social conscience of the restaurant. Every Tuesday, Kilted Lobster closes to the public and invites families and individuals facing financial hardship to complimentary dine with them. They also work hard in the community partaking in work placements and training at local schools and organisations. All the profits from the restaurant go towards funding these projects and providing this Festive Feast. The more you dine at the Kilted Lobster, the more money is available to help our communities.
Eileen Inglis, is the lady behind it all, who co-ordinates, fundraises and brings in a group of kind volunteers on Christmas Day to help.
Appetite for Change are looking to raise £1,500 to buy 50 x £20 supermarket vouchers for our Festive Feast guests, and to pay for taxis to get everyone to and from the event on Christmas Day.
