It felt like Christmas had come early but instead of taking a delivery of a present for someone else, this was all mine.
A perfect box box arrived. I carefully cut the tape at either side and pull the sellotape off only to reveal a pristine white box with a turquoise writing – my gift from Bottle in a Box. I knew precious cargo was in the box and couldn’t wait to open it.
Bottle in a Box are a Scottish company based in Falkirk that specialises in Bottles in a Box; but there is so much more to this. They work with Scottish brands to provide the perfect gift for someone special taking the hassle out of you having to find the right gift and accompaniments, and package it.
You find some of Scotland’s best spirits including gins, whiskys and rum.
Gins – Edinburgh Gin, Boe, Caorunn, Eden Mill, Kintyre, Rock Rose, Pickerings and Wild Island
Whisky – Arran, BenRiach, Jura, Big Peat, Bowmore, Dalmore, Dalwhinnie, Glendornach, Glenfiddich, Highland Park, Old Pulteney, Laphraoig, Glengoyne, Scallywag and Timorous Beastie
Rum – Dark Matter
As well as teaming up the Scottish producers for the extra add-ons such as mixture drinks from Bon Accord, Chocolates from Coco Chocolatiers and Chocolate Tree and biscuits from Shortbread House. They do have other suppliers too from around the UK.
They also have a really great subscription box service. There are many of these same services around the UK but I like the quality and the brands that Bottle in a Box offer; and I love the fact that they are trying really hard to promote and use Scottish products. So you can purchase a monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly subscription (gin starts at £40 whereas Whisky is £50). This entitles you to a premium bottle of the spirit of your choice and mixers and snacks.
I think these would make fantastic presents, be it birthday, anniversary or Christmas!
So back to the task at hand….I lift the white lid and before lies a treasure trove of things to find amongst the fun bright packaging.
A lovely wee note from Bottle in a Box telling me to enjoy my drink (ok if I must!). It’s delightful and I would be one very happy person to receive this as a present (hint hint Christmas is coming…)
So what was in the box, hidden under the crazy yellow canopy? My gift consisted of a bottle of Wild Island Gin, Rhubard Soda from Bon Accord and Gin & Tonic dark chocolate from Coco Chocolatier.
Wild Island Botanic Gin is a premium gin born on the Hebridean Isle of Colonsay. Crafted in a century old copper still at Langley Distillery, using 100% British Wheat infused with six native hand foraged botanicals growing wild on the island and a further ten as the base. Wild Island Botanic Gin is bottled in Scotland at 43.7% abv using pure Scottish water.
The six native plants which they hand gather in Spring and Summer – lemon balm, wild water mint, meadowsweet, sea buckthorn, heather flowers and bog myrtle – provide the heart and soul of Wild Island Botanic Gin.
The British wheat that they use, along with a base of ten other botanicals, led by juniper berries along with coriander seeds, sweet Mediterranean lemon peel, orange peel, liquorice, cinnamon bark, angelica root, orris root, cassia bark and nutmeg, provide body and depth to the gin.
The mixer was Sparkling Rhubarb Soda from Bon Accord. A Scottish company founded in Arbroath in 1909. Rhubarb is an unusual flavour for a soft drink, but one that is already proving really popular. It’s a refreshing full flavoured soft drink, which is crisp and not too sweet.
Reminiscent of rhubarb and custard sweets or rhubarb rock, but once again with no added refined sugar and just 94 calories per bottle. Instead they’ve added honey and coconut nectar which give a lovely depth of sweetness, not simply a sugar spike!
Lastly was the dark Gin and Tonic chocolate from Coco Chocolatier. This chocolate is vegan and gluten free. A beautifully tempered chocolate with aromatic Lemon & Lime and juniper berry oils, hence the perfect match with gin!
And there you have it…the best wee night in with Bottle in a Box.
It’s the ideal gift to give someone that you have no idea what to buy them or for someone that has everything and you are sick of buying them vouchers!
This is a really great product. They are a Scottish company supporting Scottish artisan food and drink. Please support them!
