Broxmouth Park is situated just past Dunbar in East Lothian, tucked away along the fabulous coastline. It’s predominantly a luxurious wedding venue, well the main house is, but they also have this wee hidden gem of lodge by the lake 5 minutes from the main house but it could be a whole world away, it’s so secluded.
Once you get past the main house you head up a dirt track towards the beach and then you come across this splendid tranquil setting. Lush greenery surrounding a quiet lake with only 2 crazy swans, a million midgies and a deer to keep you company. Perfect!
The lodge is stand alone with a deck and a hot tub, there is a small pier out over the lake and a tree house close by.
Inside, the lodge is compact but adequate decorated to a high standard and a perfect hiding place from the world. There is no TV and no wifi but the signal is fine for 4G. You’ll find a very comfortable living area, a breakfast bar and small fully equipped kitchen, then through to a lovely wee bedroom with en suite (with toilet and shower).
The kitchen is fitted with a stove, large fridge/freezer, sink and washing up area, ample storage and a prep area/breakfast bar. All the crockery and cutlery you will require is provided too.
We requested the welcome package which consisted of a large hamper with some delicious goodies including popcorn, fudge, biscuits, croissants, milk, butter and jam.
And a bottle of Processo chiling in the fridge. We added a few more bottles of champagne to that too.
The bedroom is contemporary and rather sweet and cosy. A comfortable bed decked out country style with sweet tartan throws and additional bedding in the cupboards.
A dressing table and wicker stool is provided as is a coat rack and extra chair by the window. Not that you’ll be spending time in the bedroom as it’s genuinely is ALL about the hot tub.
The hot tub is large and would easily fit 4 people in or two people lying and lounging about it in. We switched it on as soon as we got there. It has spectacular views out over the lake and you can hear the waves from the ocean crashing in the background. The only other noise you will hear is the birds tweeting and the slight chitter chatter from two very nosey swans.
When Bollinger is a must!
Up in the morning so the beautiful quiet. Coffee and croissant on the deck and a quick last minute splash in the hot tub before we left.
I don’t think I’ve had a better sleep in a long time. It’s so peaceful here and it only takes a few hours to switch off and truly start to relax. We only spent one night here and wished it was a few more but we know we can always go back.

Things you need to know

- There is a large supermarket about 10 minutes car drive away to stock up on midnight snacks and essentials.
- Soap, shampoo and moisturiser are provided in the bathrooms.
- Towels and bathrobes are provided.
- If you venture down to the lake and onto the pier, the swans are very territorial and will soon be on the bank chasing you back to the lodge. They will also attempt to climb the stairs of the decking and chase you into the hot tub.
